What Is The Difference Between Short Weld Ferrule And Ordinary Ferrule?

1.Ordinary ferrule

Ordinary ferrule is a common form of ferrule connection. When the nut is tightened, the edge of the ferrule bites into the outer wall of the stainless steel or copper tube, forming a metal seal between the ferrule and the tube or fitting body. This type of connection does not require welding equipment and professional skills, a spanner can be completed, significantly reducing installation time and labour costs. It also has the characteristic of repeated disassembly, which is convenient for the maintenance of piping system and component replacement. However, there is a risk of fatigue loosening of the bite point under extreme high pressure, severe vibration or frequent temperature fluctuations. At the same time, it is only suitable for seamless tubing with high hardness and good dimensional accuracy, and has poor compatibility with ordinary carbon steel tubing. Commonly used in instrument piping, hydraulic systems, laboratory equipment and other fluid transmission scenarios that do not require high cleanliness.

2. Short weld ferrule

Short weld ferrule is the upgraded form of common ferrule. One end retains the standard ferrule structure, which is easy to disassemble; the other end is connected to the main pipe or equipment interface through argon arc welding and other high-precision welding processes. Welding gives it high strength and zero-leakage sealing, and it can comfortably cope with high pressure, high temperature, strong vibration and the transport of hazardous media and other harsh working conditions. The removable ferrule end eliminates the need to cut or reweld the entire line for localised maintenance. In addition, the weld end of the short weld ferrule can be adapted to a wide range of weldable pipes, breaking through the pipe limitations of ordinary ferrules.

The ordinary ferrule is a convenient, low-cost solution for routine low-pressure pipework, while the short weld ferrule is the cornerstone of weld reliability and flexibility in disassembly and assembly, making it ideal for demanding industrial environments.
