Product Introduction

Full Socket is a fully internally threaded pipe fitting used to connect two externally threaded pipe ends or fittings end-to-end, forming a sealed, removable joint. Unlike welded connections, it allows for disassembly and reinstallation without cutting into the pipeline, making it a practical choice for systems that require periodic maintenance or on-site modifications.

Leadtek's full socket is precision-machined from solid stainless steel bar stock, available in SS304 and SS316. The internal threads run the full length of the fitting body - giving it greater thread engagement and higher pull-out resistance compared to a half socket. Full Socket Coupling is available with BSP (BSPP/BSPT) or NPT threads to suit regional piping standards across Europe, North America, and Asia-Pacific markets.

All fittings are manufactured and dimensioned to ISO 4144, ensuring compatibility with standard pipeline components and interchangeability across global supply chains.

Key Features

Full thread engagement across the entire body

The internal thread runs end-to-end, providing maximum thread engagement and load-bearing capacity. Suitable for connections subject to vibration or mechanical stress.

01

Material integrity from bar stock

Machined from solid SS304 or SS316 bar rather than cast, ensuring consistent wall thickness and a uniform grain structure throughout the fitting body.

02

Removable connection

Threaded joints can be made and broken without cutting. This reduces downtime during maintenance, inspection, or system reconfiguration.

03

Dual thread standard availability

BSP and NPT threads are both available. Specify thread type at time of inquiry to avoid mismatch with existing system components.

04

ISO 4144 dimensional compliance

All dimensions conform to ISO 4144, ensuring drop-in compatibility with compliant fittings from other suppliers in the same pipeline system.

Applications

Full Socket Coupling is used wherever a threaded, removable pipe-to-pipe or pipe-to-fitting connection is required:

Pipeline extension and repair - connecting two externally threaded pipe ends to extend a run or bridge a damaged section without welding.

Instrument and sampling lines - small-bore high-pressure instrument tubing where disassembly for calibration or cleaning is routine.

Chemical processing - SS316 grade provides molybdenum-enhanced resistance to chloride-containing process media.

Food and beverage utilities - SS304 grade for clean water, compressed air, and steam utility lines in production facilities.

Fire protection systems - threaded fittings in dry and wet pipe sprinkler systems where system segmentation and maintenance access matter.

Choosing the right connection type for your pipeline system

When specifying stainless steel fittings for an industrial piping project, connection type is one of the four core selection criteria - alongside material grade, pressure rating, and applicable standard. Leadtek's technical guide How To Select The Right Stainless Steel Fittings walks through this decision framework in detail.

On threaded connections specifically, the guide notes they are suitable for low-to-medium pressure systems where disassembly is a requirement - a condition that Full Socket Coupling is specifically designed to meet. For high-pressure permanent lines in the same system, socket-weld or butt-weld alternatives may be more appropriate. Understanding where each connection type fits allows procurement engineers to specify correctly the first time and avoid costly field modifications.

FAQ

Q: What is the difference between a full socket and a half socket?

A: A full socket has internal threads running the full length of the fitting. A half socket (also called a reducing socket) is internally threaded on one end only. Full socket provides greater thread engagement and is the correct choice when both connected ends carry external threads.

Q: Are BSP and NPT threads interchangeable?

A: No. BSP and NPT threads have different thread angles and pitch, and are not interchangeable. Confirm the thread standard used in your existing system before ordering. Leadtek offers both - specify at the time of inquiry.

Q: What material should I choose for corrosive media?

A: SS316 is recommended for media containing chlorides, acids, or other aggressive chemicals, due to its molybdenum content which improves pitting and crevice corrosion resistance. SS304 is suitable for general water, air, and mild chemical service.

Q: What is the minimum order quantity?

A: MOQ varies by size and specification. Contact us with your required size, thread standard, and material to receive a quotation and lead time.

Q: Can Leadtek provide material certificates?

A: Yes. Mill test certificates (MTC 3.1) are available. PMI (positive material identification) testing can also be arranged upon request.
