According to the latest technical guidelines issued by the China Hardware Products Association, professional technicians have provided a detailed explanation of the common measurement methods for water pipe fittings.
"In practical operation, the measurement of male pipe fittings (outer thread fittings) requires placing the caliper at the top of the external threads, while for female pipe fittings (inner thread fittings), the measurement should be taken at the bottom of the internal threads," explained the director of the Association's Technical Department. "This difference arises from the special structure of thread processing, as the recessed threads of inner thread fittings can cause visual measurement errors."
Field observations reveal that workers typically use digital vernier calipers for precise measurements. Taking the common DN20 pipe fittings as an example, the outer diameter of the male pipe fitting was measured at 26.8mm, while the inner diameter of the female pipe fitting was measured at 24.2mm. Although there is a difference in the values, the thread parameters of both fittings match perfectly. This precise fit is thanks to the unified national standards, with GB/T7306.1-2000 "55° Sealing Pipe Threads" specifying the tolerance range for the matching of male and female threads.
It is reported that the standard measurement process for male and female thread pipe fittings should include steps such as cleaning the pipe ends, calibrating the instruments, and performing multiple measurements to ensure data accuracy.

Leadtek reminds consumers: "When purchasing, it is important to note that qualified products must ensure the consistency of the actual thread middle diameter. It is recommended to use professional thread gauges for testing, as ordinary tape measures are only suitable for rough estimates."
